Are colour photo printers good?

Asked on: 14 Aug 2009

Yes, printers have really come in recent years.

I remember about ten years ago a good quality colour printer was really expensive. Now you can get a printer that does photo quality prints for next to nothing - presumably as technology has got better they have been able to make photo quality printers for less and less cost, so now you can spend very little.

The only thing to note is how much refills cost as if you print many photos often the ink goes quite quickly.

Most colour printers today do a very good job. You'd need to spend a few K to get a real photo print as in Pro photo so buy the one that meets your needs best but before you do, checkout the cost of inks as they are what eats into your cash more than anything else. Paper is a cost too but inks are ridiculous! If you convert the cost of ink to say petrol, then try working out what one litre of ink will cost...ouch! Kodak is one manufacturer that is leaning towards cheaper ink cost. I have one of their ‘Early’ all in one’s and it produces good images, noisy but good and the inks are cheap. I also have an Epson Stylus Photo R2880 - A3+ which has 8 tanks to refill.......pricey but for what I need especially B&W... it’s real good. Still no a Pro though. Brad.
