Ceanothus

My beautiful ceanothus seems to be dead and i am wondering what has happened to it.

How old is it?

What position is it planted in... has it been unusually dry / wet / acidic with regard to soil conditions?

are there any signs of infection either from fungal infection or perhaps an insect and so on.
