How to compare strong and weak acid and base?
Question asked by: knowitall
Strong and weak acids have different effects on different chemical reactions and through those you can distinguish which is which.
For instance the stronger the acid the more effervescence there is when a metal is added to the acid and the reaction occurs to create a salt of the metal.
If you add a strong acid to a glass of sugar then you will see a significant reaction as just the carbon is left growing up in the glass as the acid reacts, whilst with a weaker acid not much will happen.
Similarly strong bases react differently to weaker bases, so through using certain telltale reactions you can see whether what you have in your presence is a strong or a weak acid.
