If it is OK for women to use coloured contact lens then I think it would be fine for a man to also I can't see any reason why not!
In terms of safety then I would suggest you only use contact lenses that are recommended to you by your optician/eye doctor, that way you will know they are safe for your eyes regardless of whether they are coloured or not. Just buying them without checking with the optician is risky just incase they are not suitable for your particular eyes.
