Do celebrities read autograph letters themselves?

There's no complete answer to this as it will depend on the celebrity.
With minor Z list stars then there is a chance that they will get passed fan mail to respond to.
With big celebrities who will be getting quantities of fan mail every single day there is very little chance they will. Instead the fan mail will be opened by a secretary who may send back from a pile of pre signed autographs, or perhaps even it could be a pre-print, which is one where the signature has been electronically overlaid.
