Does sudoku count as a number puzzle?

Sudoku is a logic puzzle that usually contains numbers.
This is a good question because many people describe sudoku as a number puzzle but it is infact a logic puzzle.
This is because the numbers do not function as numbers and you do no maths with them and they could infact be replaced with anything else, for instance colours, and the puzzle would not be affected at all.
So if people say "I can't do sudoku because I am no good at maths" then they are actually not understanding what sudoku is!
