How can I get a job as a web designer?

Web design is a real growth industry, but the market is very saturated.
There are countless web designers out there, so getting work on a consistent basis can be very hard.
The best way to do this is to build up a portfolio of clients.
Consider doing your first few pieces of work cheaply, or even for free - that way you can start to get your name around and also get some work under your belt.
Once you have a portfolio, try and get referrals from existing clients, and also consider advertising in local press.
