How can I get better at playing my favourite instrument?
Question asked by: knowitall
There are two main ways to get better at playing a musical instrument.
The first way is to practice the fingering for your chosen instrument as this is often the difference between playing a piece well and not so well, as it is essential that you make it as easy as possible to move your fingers over those keys or for playing the chord depending on your instrument.
The second is to be disciplined to practice and pay particular attention to the bits you are not too good at - many naturally work on the bits they can play well and get better at those; rather concentrate on the bits that you are not very good at!

Consider which aspects of your technique are holding you back and pick studies/exercises that focus on these. Then keep on practising these until you have mastered them confidently. Your music teacher should be able to help you find appropriate studies/exercise and guide you on ways to practise.
