How can I get better at kakuro?

There are a few ways to get better at kakuro.
The main way is practice as your eye will develop quickly at spotting patterns and combinations.
Indeed learning the combinations is also a great way as then you can quickly deduce patterns.
Start with small runs with high to low values as these have the least possible number of combinations.
Also look for cross overs that only have one number in common, because you can instantly place that number at the crossover.
Consider using pencilmarks too to mark possible values for a cell - if there are only two values for a cell then write it down and then it is easier to reference later on than working out each time through the puzzle the possible values at each location.
