How can I kill weeds safely?

Killing weeds can be tricky.
The best method without hurting other plants can often be simply to burn them using a portable gas torch.
Simply burn the weed to a crisp which should kill it off. Such selective treatment is of course instant and also guaranteed not to affect other plants.
It is also not using chemicals that can harm other plants and food.
