How can I raise awareness of my photography?

Raising awareness of your photography like that basically requires you to be good at marketing yourself.
You could try contacting local places that require photographers (such as newspapers etc) and see if you can freelance and submit photos to them and then try and get a full time job when they are impressed with you.
Or of course create a website that showcases your work then build traffic through twittering and other websites.
