How can I use my washing line?

Husband (not good at DIY!) Has secured washing line at one end then at other end it goes over a runner and then ties of. I have to pull with all my might to get the washing line up with clothes on it!! I know there should be a ring and another piece of rope but can\'t work it out. Please someone help

Yes, you need a hook at one end of the line that is fixed at a reasonable height off the ground, then you wind the rope around this to raise the height of the line, and then unhook the rope from around the hook in order to lower the line (because this adds more length of rope and therefore adds slack).
