How did consciousness evolve?
Question asked by: mrquestion
Asked on: 19 Jan 2010
It is currently thought in the world of science that, as amazing as consciousness is, it can be explained without recourse to the supernatural.
This means therefore that ultimately it is a physical phenomenon, albeit a very complicated one, and one that can be explained through the standard world of physics, atoms, connections and so on.
It is thought to be what may be called an emergent property, or one that comes unexpectedly from the arrangement of the brain: with so many connections and humans having such a large brain consciousness is seen as an emergent property of the incredibly complicated organisation that is the brain.
