How do all these small cable channels make enough to keep broadcasting?

It does make you wonder when you hear of major channels struggling how the little ones that no-one watch survive.
However it is a case of budgets. The smaller channels will have much smaller budgets and therefore lower outlays. In turn therefore they need less advertising revenues to come in in order to cover those costs that they have.
This means they are able to keep going, though quite a few fold and don't make any income, some are even run at a loss as a kind of promotion for that brand that runs the channel.
