How do I clean spilt red ink from my beige carpet?

Cleaning ink can be a tricky task and of course on a light colour like beige it looks a little too conspicuous for your liking!
One method that works quite well is actually to spray with some hairspray and then rub; with many inks this will get rid of the stain without dyeing the carpets.
