How do I control Lilac Borers?

I have an heirlom lilac (mother plant brought here from Germany in the 1850's) about 15 years old, totally trouble-free until now. Seems as if we've been invaded by borers. How to control them, hopefully organically? Do not want to lose this beauty. Thanks.

Spray them with some insect pesticide... you can probably pick one up at the garden centre tell them the problem and they'll give you the right product!
