How do i get cooking greese of a painted wall?

I have got cooking stains on my kitchen wall and wondered if there is a way of getting them off without having to paint the whole kitchen again

Could you use a damp cloth to wipe off the stains or is that not enough?

If that doesn't work then it might be the only way is to paint over them though obviously that is a bit of a hassle!
