How do you know if a number is divisible by three?

This is a simple trick and looks impressive.
For instance is the number 111,111,111 divisible by three? Well if you know the rule you can say yes through not actually doing the calculation.
If the digits sum to a multiple of three then the number is divisible by 3, for instance 18 is 1+8 which is 9 which is divisible by three, and so is 18.
