How do you negotiate a bonus?

Question asked by: mrquestion

Asked on: 20 Jan 2010

Negotiating a bonus at work is something that people tend to find quite difficult, because they don't want to appear too arrogant and pushy about their own skill set and ability.

Then again, you have to remember that if you don't stick up for yourself in such negotiations then no-one else is going to do it for you! Therefore you have to just be honest and open in assessing your own ability and if you genuinely think you are being short changed in the bonus negotiation, then say so, giving CLEAR REASONS why you think you are being short changed: for instance remind them that you increased turnover by x% on product y when you did project z etc.
