How do you stop people shutting the door on you doorstepping?

I don't think you can: if people are busy doing something else, have an absolute policy of not talking to anyone doorstepping and so on, then there is nothing you can do.

However for those who could be open in principle to being sold something, you can use good technique to increase your chances.

You need to smile all the time, be very friendly and enthusiastic, and try and ask open questions to engage them in dialogue. Then when you build a rapport with them they will find it harder to just stop you short but will probably listen to you out of politeness, giving you a better chance of getting a sale.
