How does tooth whitening work and how do you get whiter teeth?

There are various methods of tooth whitening.

One is through using chemicals that slightly bleach the tooth, in other words a chemical reaction that make it gradually whiter over time. Some of these are available over the counter.

The other option is actually some sort of coating or veneer on top of the teeth that acts like a coat and turns them white.
