How fast is a ball thrown?

A boy throws a ball straight up and the ball returns to the boy's hands after 3 seconds. How fast was it thrown? How high did it rise?

Speed = distance / time

Force = mass * acceleration

By using equations and putting the values in if you know them you can work out the answer.
