How has twitter changed the way people use the internet?

Twitter has changed the way that some people use the internet in that they expect news not to be just updated daily but by the second.
When there have been some big news stories in the world recently the twitter world has shown that people can update and post about the news straight away and within minutes a picture of what is going on around the world can be built up. So it has taken the immediacy of the internet news up a level from daily to instantly.
