How many planets are there in the solar system?
Question asked by: knowitall
It is standardly accepted that there are 9 planets in the solar system, as follows (closest to furthest from the sun):
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune
Pluto
Recently some have argued whether Pluto is really a planet given its small rocky nature, and the number of other planetoids that have been discussed. One day Pluto may have its status as a planet downgraded.
