I have dark brown hair,I want to get a light shade of brown. Can I just pick out a light color hair dye or do I have to do anything to it first?

With hair dyeing, it depends on your shade and your hair type, and what you want to move to.
If you already have brown hair and just want to move to a different shade, then you can go straight ahead that will be fine.
The difficulty comes with changing colour which can sometimes have rather unexpected results!
