Im wanting to build a pond

Im wanting to have a pond, I would like any dos and donts in doing this, I would like it to be 3.4 meteres, its going to be a major thing in the garden i would like a water fall any ideas tips of what we realy need to keep the water clear and the pond life healthy,we need to know from the basics of a formed pond to a liner and to having a beautiful attrction, any advice will be appreciated
