In what way is the understanding of the biological concept of species important for understanding evolution?
Question asked by: knowitall
It is very important to understand the concept of species when thinking about evolution.
That is because the two go hand in hand. When something is said to evolve, it turns gradually into a new species.
Therefore evolution is almost defined in terms of range and diversification of species. If we did not recognise species as we do then our concept of evolution may not exist or be radically different from what it is.
Understanding evolution helps us understand speciation and vice versa - the two are inextricably linked.
