In what ways do political parties promote democracy?
Question asked by: knowitall
Political parties don't all promote democracy.
However political parties in democracies promote democracy in the fact that they are apparently encourage people to vote for them and try to make policies that are attractive to the individuals in that democracy, because they are the ones that vote for them.
The idea of being accountable to the people that vote means that you should always bear them in mind when making your policies and decisions so that you stay in power and do not get voted out at the next election.
Of course political parties in other systems for instance totalitarian states don't need to promote democracy and often don't at all, therefore it is political parties already in a democracy that promote democracy, not political parties in and of themselves!
