Is a computer alive?
Question asked by: knowitall

Not on any standard definition. The closest we get to this is with artificial intelligence. There is a test whereby a group of scientists converse with a series of computers. If the computer can convince the scientists with their responses that it is actually a human, then perhaps a good argument could be made that the computer is humanesque in terms of ability, though quite whether this would count as being alive is a moot point. If so it would clearly be alive in a radically different sense to the normal conception!
