If done correctly bleaching of teeth should be safe, it is recommended to be done by a dentist or a pro though you can get home bleaching kits.
The key is to follow the instructions carefully and not have the bleach in your mouth too long or to apply in the incorrect manner or to anything other than the teeth themselves!
