Is confidence more important than competence in finding a job?

This sounds like a question asked from bitter experience.
Certainly if you are a good quality candidate but lack the confidence to show this at interview then you can be frustrated as someone else with less skills but the ability to present themselves well and be confident about what they can achieve will walk away with the job.
You would like to think that a talented and trained interviewer could spot the best candidate, however this is not always the case, and so therefore you should try to be as confident as you can at interview to give yourself the best chance.
