Is it expensive to buy a camera?

It depends what you want! For a cheap point and shoot or a holiday disposable then very little indeed.
Even relatively decent digital cameras, compared to a few years ago, are now going at a bargain price so you need spend little.
Only if you want a digital SLR and professional camera from a brand like Nikon or Canon would you be spending more, but even there there are models in many budgets.
