This is a pretty tricky question!

Defining what life is is very hard and no-one really agrees on the answer.

Just working out what define the characteristics of life is controversial enough nevermind defining exactly what life itself IS.

It probably will ultimately come down to being an insanely intricate set of reactions and chemical pathways that are dictated by the laws of physics and nature but the complexity is insane so working out exactly what constitutes life is won't happen for a while!
