Needing a little help how do i solve 8p - 1 = 23

8p-1=23
You are looking to find the value of 'p' to solve the equation.
As the equation is trusted as true, both sides of the '=' sign represent the same total value. The great thing about Algebra is that we can make alterations to the above equation to eventually find the value of 'p'. The important thing with this kind of equation is that whatever you do to one side of the '=' you MUST do to the other equally.
so, with 8p-1=23
(a) to 'cancel out' or 'eliminate' -1 we would have to add 1 to both sides ( -1 plus 1 equals zero) then (23 add 1 equals 24)this would leave 8p=24
(b)8p=24 is saying to us that 8 multiplied by a number (represented by 'p')is equal to 24
(c)we know that 8x3=24 therefore p=4 or divide each side by 8 leaving p=24
