Please answer this question relating to DISCOUNT

The list price of an air-conditioner is Rs.25630. The rate of sales tax is 10%. The customer requests the dealer to allow a discount to such an extent that the cost of air-conditioner amounts to Rs.25630 inclusive of sales tax. Find the rate of discount.

So we know that x (where x is the sales price) is such that x + x/10 = 25630.

Multiply through by 10 and we get 10x + x = 256300

This means that 11x = 256300

So x = 256300 / 11 = 23300, so 23300 is the sales price agreed on that with the 10% tax added amounted to the 25630 total.

So we now need to work out what percentage of 25630 is 23300 so we can work out the discount price applied.

This is easy: it is a discount of 9.09%
