The average age of a group of 24 girl guides is 14 years. If three girls aged 15 16 and 17 leave and are replaced with other girls aged 12 what is the new average age of the group?
Question asked by: knowitall
If the average age of 24 girls is exactly 14, then you know the total age of the group: it is 24 x 14 or 336.
Therefore take off 15,16,17 from 336 and from this revised figure, add 12,12,12 (36 in total).
Then divide this new total by 24 to get the new average age, which is 13.5 exactly.
