Was life better after high-tech ruled the world or befor? and why?

Impossible to say. Partly this is because different eras are very hard to compare in that way, and partly because of the treadmill effect where people are happy relative to those around them - when everyone has a television then they are not as happy as if they are the only one with the television.
It is also hard to miss what you do not have.
