What are the main components of blood?
Question asked by: knowitall
Blood has several major components and some lesser ones. Here is what blood is mainly composed of:
Red blood cells are what blood is most well known for, these cells carry oxygen around the body and are what give blood its distinctive bright red colour.
Blood is also composed of another blood cell, this time white blood cells, and these are those that fight infection around the body.
Then there are platelets, which help with the clotting of blood where necessary, for instance when we get a cut.
These are all carried around in a clear watery liquid that is known as plasma.
In addition blood contains other nutrients and so forth, but these are the four main components.
