What can I do to help me find work?

There is lots you can do to find work.
First of all you can network with friends and people you know who are in work and see if they can turn up some leads and keep an ear to the ground for you.
You can work on your CV and interview skills so you are ready to go when the right option comes up. You could even go on a course if you have the money or simply teach yourself a new attractive skill relative to what you do whilst you are out of work too in order that you are still developing whilst not working.
And of course you can research and apply for jobs on some of the many job sites, the job centre and so on.
