What causes the white band of color thru dark stone?

There are several options.
If it is a soft rock like a limestone or sedimentary rock then it can be animal sediment.
Sometimes if it is metamorphic rock forged through heat in the earth it is the result of the different minerals in the earth that have been crushed together in close proximity.
