What features does a comet have?
Question asked by: knowitall

A comet is often called a dirty snowball, and this is not a bad description!
They are small objects, only a few kilometres across, and are mainly water.
This water is mixed with some gases like carbon dioxide, ammonia and methane.
Thus a dirty snowball is a good description.
They all orbit the Sun, and have a regular orbit.
Near the sun a head and coma or tail are easy to spot as the gases warm and burn up near the sun due to the heat.
The most famous is Halley's comet.
