What is a calcudoku puzzle?

Question asked by: mrquestion

Asked on: 23 Dec 2009

A calcudoku puzzle is a logic puzzle that originated in Japan. It recently appeared (I think 2008 but just possibly 2007) in Europe and the US too.

It came in under the name of kenken however this was trademarked by the initial maker of this puzzle type and therefore in the west it was known as names such as kendoku but now the makers of this puzzle type all call it calcudoku to avoid any issues over the copyright of the name.

The puzzle requires you to work out where numbers must go in a puzzle grid and this is based on being told whether the numbers in regions are to be an addition, subtraction, multiplication or division sum.
