What is absolute zero?
Question asked by: knowitall
This is the lowest temperature that could theoretically exist in the universe, and its value is set at 0K - zero Kelvin. This temperature is set as the base temperature according to the kinetic theory of matter which currently holds sway. This temperature, of -273 Celsius is that at which molecules are defined as being in their lowest energy state. This means that it is not possible for molecules to have less energy, hence an absolute zero. Interesting, some materials have radically different properties at extreme temperatures - most popularly known are some metals which become superconductors at these temperatures.
