What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is the process whereby a company sets up a scheme that allows other individuals who do not work for the company to advertise their products and sell on their behalf.
Thus if this site set up an affiliate scheme it could for instance get other people to refer people to Tell Me How and give them a small sum of money for each referral.
Affiliate schemes however tend to be used and work best with product based schemes. Thus imagine that you sell eBooks you could set up an affiliate scheme whereby people refer others to you and sell the product on your behalf - and if they do that you give them a cut of the money that you make.
