What is an ultraviolet filter?

An ultraviolet filter is simply a device that when placed in front of a lens or something else will filter out the ultraviolet rays that are in that light.
Typically sunglasses will have a filtering effect to remove ultraviolet, also there is a camera filter that will do the same.
