What is consciousness?
Question asked by: mrquestion

Consciousness is being aware of yourself as a particular individual and person, and specifically knowing that the thoughts you have are your own; an awareness of yourself (looking in the mirror and knowing you are seeing 'you') is a prerequisite of consciousness but is not necessarily sufficient for it given there are some animals that appear to be aware of their own reflection that would not standardly be classified as conscious of themselves.
