What is environmental chemistry.
Question asked by: nkgodwin
Asked on: 16 Sep 2009
Environmental chemistry looks at the chemistry in the world around us and particularly that which affects the environment.
For instance, if you look at the sort of reactions that take place in bodies of water when fertilisers are added and see how these can lead to damaging effects through algal blooms that use all the resources of the river quickly, then you are looking at one item of environmental chemistry.
It is important because it seems that some of the things humans are doing are affecting the planet in an adverse manner, therefore environmental chemistry can help us understand what impact we are having and perhaps point to ways in which we can mitigate any future man-made environmental problems and issues.
