What is lateral thinking?
Question asked by: mrquestion
Asked on: 23 Dec 2009
Lateral thinking is the process of thinking creatively and making jumps and leaps and generating new ideas, thinking things that no-one else has thought before.
It is to be distinguished from logical thinking whereby you make deductions and inferences.
With truly great lateral thinking a solution to a problem might suddenly appear to you and hit you as obvious in a way that does not happen with logical thinking as that requires a process of reasoning.
