What is modus ponens?

This is a simple argument form in the world of logic.
It looks like this:
If P, then Q.
P.
Therefore Q.
This is quite an intuitive argument form and we use it all the time in real life,
If it is raining, then I will take an umbrella to work.
It is raining.
Therefore I will take an umbrella to work.
