What is office politics?

Office politics is the goings on in the office, for instance who likes who, the favourites, knowing who has each particular sensitivity and how to play people off each other in the office.
If two bosses have conflicting ideas and are competing for the attention of the big boss or whatever then things can get interesting.
If you need to be particularly nice to a person to get them to do something then through office politics you crawl up to them; it is a good idea to be nice to your boss too.
